Default what's the e-estimate for this?

my check engine light is on;
took it to autozone and it said:

system too lean
misfire on cylinders: 1,4,5 & 8

so if this is the oxygen sensor, about what am i looking at in repair costs? (not at dealer, but i'm taking it to a local shop that does VW's and other imports)

Had this done on my TT with the 1.8T engine - two O2 sensors at $140 each and labor came to $425 about

i could probably handle that.
is that all i have is two sensors?

i'll know more tomorrow when i take it in for an estimate at a local shop here.
i just wanted to have some kind of automotive knowledge about the problem so they wouldn't jack up the price for a "dumb woman"!

maybe i ought to just say, "yeah, it rides like i'm misfiring on some of the cylinders and i'm thinking it might be an oxygen sensor, but you better look at the codes and see what they say."

Not to worry... They jack up the prices for "smart" women, too!

Yes, you only have two O2 sensors. One for each bank of cylinders. From your original post it was looking like you might get out with oly one being bad, but, that pesky #8 hadda go and rear it's ugly (piston) head.

i really don't think i'm gonna get out of this for under $500!

i guess, on the other hand, i could buy a new car that IS under warranty. then i wouldn't have this problem.

yeah but what would be the fun in that?
try taking it to somewhere decides the "stealership". and if your mechanically inclined its not that bad of a job i don't believe...friend of mine just did it on his A4 in a day. on my 87 4k i just took the one off...still runs fine...wouldnt try that with the TT. but try some local shop. usually cheaper.

I'm rather lucky, happen to luck upon a straight up mechanic who knows his stuff and lives off his reputation of being fair and reasonably priced. The only place I'll take my TT

Right? I had suspension work done for a little under $500. Replace that **** yourself or trade a friend free food for the work.
