See this, the driver is changing the gears sometimes by putting it in neutral first...

Notice also in that video, that while downshifting, he is tapping the gas lightly with the heel of his right foot while the toe is on the brake. This is another technique so that you don't lose engine rpms while slowing down, downshifting through a turn, so thetransmission isn't pushing the engine revs upwhen you let off the clutch in thelower gear. If done correctly, it will help you gain a little time over someone who doesn'tdo it.
Double clutching is the techniqueused to help prevent thesynchros from not lining up and locking you out of a gear you are trying to shift into -called"missing ashift"in a race - which is whyI got a built TCI 3 spd automatic transmission in my Malibu andhave never missed a shift + shiftsquicker than any standard(plusI didn't want todrop $$$ on a Muncie 4 spd manual).

Double clutching is retarded in any car with synchros in the tranny.......which is pretty much every car on the road. The synchro does the job for double clutching, the only people that should be doing this is BIG RIGS.
Try driving one of those without double clutching, you won't be able to change gears.
