Yup, the box makes a big difference as well. I have a single 10 inch Kenwood and a Rockford 400w amp. It sounds really nice. Really clean to.

go with alpine for sure the reason your friends didnt sound good is because its type s either get r type or x type
if you go with the r type look for the ones that come with the alpine box that will be the best sounding especially out of that box
