typically the better they look, the less time they last

In my experience, Zaino actually lasts a long time. like really long, I mean you don't have to do it that often and the car still looks amazing.
here are some pics from my car (13years old now)
and I'll be the first to tell you I am probably not the best waxer

Meguiars gets the job done.
At my shop we use this badass wax on our boats called Tree Wax. Looks like a solid KY jelly and its pretty much pure carnauba. Makes boats and cars shine almost too much and is ridiculously slippery when you're through. Hard to stuff to find though.

Either paint cleanser and wax from S-100 (or P21S, same stuff - you can get them at a Harley shop), or a Meguiars three-step (cleanser, polish, wax). They're great - the Meguiar's is a really nice budget multi-step, and the S-100 gives an incredible finish.

well you can't buy zaino in stores so if you look for it you wont find it.
http://www.zainostore.com/ here is the link for zaino if you want it, want to look at some more cars that put mine to shame

I never trusted any brand except for the Optimum Car Wax. You can inquire in this site (http://www.optimumcarcare.com/optimumwax.html). That's what i apply to make my Cadillac SRX hood shiny as new. try it.
