u should prob start off with a 125 for a starter dirt bike. my friends all had honda CR and LOVED them. so thats all i can recommend. umm 4 strokes r okay, but they r really hard to start up. and i LOVE the sound of a 125 over 4 stroke

 

ohh and dont forget protective gear.. would hate to see you get hurt

 

Yea my dad wants one to ride and then hes buying me one so i can ride with him. I mean u have a perfect spot to ride them and its a waste not to do it, and everything else he likes to do is liek $100 or more everytime he wants to do it so... Hes think around 2000 - 2500 a bike (used starter bikes) and then go from there if we get good. This wasnt just a grand idea all of a sudden, we decided last spring that we would start looking at them in the fall (we dont go to the other house Palm Desert, in the summer). Im hoping to have them to ride by Thanksgiving vaca.

 

I know that they hurt when you fall off trying to jump them.

Get a 4-stroke enduro, like a KTM or that new Yamaha 450 that just came out?

 

the 450 would be a good bike for your pops (assuming he's an average size dude), but don't get anything bigger than a 250 for you (or a 125 if you decide to go with a 2-stroke, but i highly recommend you do NOT do that)

 

how much over 2500 do u think it would be. Remember im talking used bikes, if we go for new one then im sure they will be around 5k. How is a KTM as far as maintence goes? will a 250 4 stroke have a good amount of power? I wnat to be able to get moving but not so fast that its to hard for me to control.

 

you want a 250 4-stroke. if i told you the horsepower you'd laugh..hp on dirtbikes doesn't hold as much weight as it does with cars. you want something light. KTMs tend to be less reliable than the major japanese brands (honda, yamaha, suzuki & kawi), and are typically more expensive to repair/maintain....i didn't see the budget before. it will be tough to find newer 4-strokes (2000+) for less than 3 grand, but this is the right season to be buying if you want to find the good deals.

 

OK ill start looking and when i get some actual models ill post them and see what u guys think since it sounds like alot of u know alot about dirt bikes.

tell your dad to get a mistress instead im sure they are more fun to ride then a dirt bike anyways

but a dirt free bike is nice though but i rather have other things

if a father and son want to spend time together maybe they should go fishin or talk over a cup of coffee instead of him trying to prove hes still usefull and able to do thing, you gotta act your age, if breaking your neck something will prove something by all means go for it
