Instedda backpacking the Appalcins, how about mountain biking the entire trail? Approx. 2200 miles, so, a century/day, give or take, and it could be done in 3-weeks-ish.

I been thinking about this for almost a decade. It's on my "Before 50" list!

Nah, I'm less grouchy today. I'll even throw in a few:

- take a hang gliding lesson; even though you only get a few feet off the ground, it's very fun
- go 175mph on a motorcycle
- hand out food to the homeless
- have sex in your car, even if you have a house to go to
- if you see an elderly person eating by themselves at a restaurant, buy them dinner and tell the waiter not to tell them who did it

Know what? I am actually gonna do #'s 3 & 5, next chance I get. Did #4 for most of teh 2nd half of teh 70's (anybody remember when "safe" sex was locking the door?). #1, meh. If the opportunity arises I'll jump on it, otherwise... #2, not my thing, yet. Yet!

Warning on #2, besides the obvious: once you go fast on a bike, it's very hard to get excited about a car again.

Zero G's (mine was unintentionally)
Blow stuff up with a MK19 grenade launcher
Take a week off and go Peter Gibbons style
Drive the Autobahn (preferably not in a rental that only does 120mph)
Destroy a rental car Dukes of Hazzard style
Visit Europe and/or Asia
Learn a foreign language
Ride a jet ski in a lap pool

Does "getting air" over railroad crossings @ 100mph count?

I've got my Shutzenschnur for a 7mm Luger AND the German MG3 (both Silber); qualified Expert on everything from the M1911 to the Baretta 9mm, and the M14 (back in my MCJROTC days), M16A1 & A2, M2 .50cal, and the M203. But, never got a chance to fire the Mk19. I did get to clean a few, as Armorer in training, but that's about it.

I've lived in Europe for about 16years, culminating about a decade ago. I've done upwards of 175mph (in my Opel Calibra, Turbo), and as much as 150mph in a few different rentals, in my time. Most notably a TDI Passat Wagen, back in the early-'90's, as a DoD courier during the Dessert-Storm years.

I don't think I could stand the hit against my iinsurance for something like this. I'll pass.

Ha, I can read it, but I can't write it, I can understand most of German, italian and french but I can't really hold a conversation...

The MK19 thing, you're really not missing much, all you do is fire your rounds and just wait for impact, is like a bunch of grenades blowing up on the same area. It did blow the hell out of the little tank that was on the range...
