For shutting down my base. Nothing like the government making your unit spend 2.5 years in the desert and then shutting you down! THANKS! </rant>

Shut the unit down, or just the base?

The whole base is being shut down and given to the Army. Our airplanes are being given to active duty Air Force. And we are on our own.

So all your equipment has been handed over to the army, and are wandering about, with nothing to do? That sucks dude. They moving you all on to another base, or are you going to be a little plaything for the grunts?

Gov. Rendell (PA's Gov. , X-mayor of Philly) took the pentagon to court over the proposed closure of the Navy base in Willow Grove. Yesterday the judge ruled in favor of Rendell and told the BRAC comm. it COULD NOT close Willow Grove.
Rendell's arguing point was that the 111th fighter wing of the PA National gaurd was also stationed at Willow Grove and ONLY the Gov. had the authority to close that base with the state's Nat. gaurd being there.
Fed. judge evidently agreed.

*note to Pentagon* -don't mess with people from Philly.... good job Ed..

Haha, there's a good one. Our gov isn't a friend of the military, he hasn't offered to help us at all.

No the Air guard base is being shut down, and the all of the surrounding Army guard bases that were shut down are moving onto our land. I have NO plans to transfer to the Army. Different culture completely. I suspect i'll get out of the military or transfer to another base someplace. [:'(]

You could always join the reserves or guard at McGuire.

I know the reserves here are paying their guys to fly to philly, get a rental car, and they still get paid per diem to stay at a hotel off/on base for their one weekdend a month. Reservists here also only deploy when they want to.

W-P AFB isn't too far from you, is it? Or has it been moth-balled already?

Nope not too far (hour). I'm gonna have to do some scouting there when I get home!
