From a European point of view you all seem really lucky to me.You are all very young to own such a prestige model of car irrespective of it age . It would be well out of reach in the UK for most 17 to 25 year olds, and any mods would be sheer luxury.
The insurance alone would be crippling and probably over £1000 UK pounds at a guess, but thats the beauty of you all living in the
states.Cheap fuel and the rest of it.Good luck to you all

1000 UK pounds a year? I've paid way more than that in the past... And Ive always had a clean record. I was at 4900 a year when I owned my trans am.

EDIT: and speaking of the trans am... that is the car that probably earned me the most resentment from people that knew me... seemed like every punk at the school hated me. I remember one guy with a brand new cavalier, riced to hell... he'd always dump his clutch and burn off his kuhmo's... I'd just look at him and laugh... I'm pretty sure you're 140 hp can spin your 205/40/18's... and I'm pretty sure my 350 hp can rip the hell out of my 275/45/17's... haha, I just never got it. His car was worth more than mine... it was a 2003, mine was a 1994. People just don't know what to do with money.

And yeah, I've always paid for my own cars... I've always had to use credit of some kind to buy them though. But I used my own bank loans. At one point, I owned my 1985 corvette, and my 1994 trans am at the same time. I made a hair over 1300 every 4 weeks, and my monthly bills included 250 even for the trans am (it was on a line of credit) 253 a month for the corvette (it was on a loan) and 426 a month for insurance. I was at 929 a month to drive the trans am, and own the corvette (it was off the road). Factor in gas... and do the math. My car was nearly my life! haha, I worked 40 hours a week... so I could drive.

You can pay a grand for a 1000cc pile of **** citreon. It would be much more for an Audi ,there is no way a teenager would get insurance for a trans am or equivelent.

Wouldn't get insurance, or wouldn't be able to afford it? Most people would say an 18 year old couldn't afford 5 grand a year for insurance... but I know people who have paid 8000 a year. It can be done... but unless you have a passion for driving, it isn't worth it. If I just needed transportation, I'd have bought a bus pass. 929 a month buys a lot of cab fare, too.

Depends on the price your willing to pay.I have heared of teens paying 25k to insure a sierra cosworth back in 80s
but you gotta be loaded to do it. My 2nd car cost £300 but £500 to insure it.

Yeah I insured my girlfriends 1990 civic for a bit... I picked it up for 600 bucks, and it was 1700 a year to insure it.

All these rates are without collision... I've never been able to afford collision coverage. The trans am would have been 7K a year with full coverage.

Right now I am 22, have the audi, and pay 155 a month for comprehensive and liability coverage only. I hate not having collision on such a new car... but it would add about 90 dollars a month. 90 dollars that I don't have, now that I'm in school.

you know what i hate even more than unappreciative teenagers? unappreciative young adults!!!!!!!!!!!!! teenagers are kids, minors..it's their parents' responsibility to raise them however they see fit. the REALLY bad ones are the guys (and gals, though not so much on this forum) that are OVER 18 years old, talking **** to all the teenagers, while still getting help from their parents. i know i probably won't get many responses to this one, because these young adults are usually the most quiet about receiving help from their folks.

BE HONEST GUYS!!!!!

how many of you 18+ kids still receive help from your parents? like, for example, your insurance is in their name, or they pay your cell phone bill, or help pay for your rent, food, clothing, toys, etc, etc, etc?

i can honestly say that i've been paying for all my own stuff since i was 17, and COMPLETELY on my own since a month after my 18th birthday, and i'm very proud of that. i think i've borrowed a total of 100 bucks from my mom (for a cell phone bill) in my entire life.

And bentframe lives in cali, so this makes this even more impressive..... i moved from there cuz i couldn't afford to live there on my own......

I pay for basically everything myself, my parents still pay a bit towards my mortgage while I'm in school..... when i'm done with school, i'm screwed.

It was academic. Haha, if you met my parents, they're about as far as you get from Country Club people. They make fun of me all the time because I have an Audi. They always tell me I'm the yuppie in the family.
