Subs
Okay all the other forums are dead so i post here since this seems to contain the most action consistintly. I have my eye set on an alpine type r subs. Now im not sure what to do aboust size. I have considered either a single 12" or two 12" but also in the back of my mind i was a 15" I use to have a power acoustik **** 15" that banged my car with clear clear sound so ive already dealt with a loud *** sub but i wanted others opinions before i went to purchase. Iam going to run the subs or sub to a hifonics 1200watt class D mono amp and i have a 3.0 farad cap so pushing the subs wont be a problem either. Input greatly appreciated.

yea i was planning on building my own box. I have built pretty much every box i ever owned. a buddy of mine also builds boxes and he has a xterra with 2 twelves and his broke his rear glass and his doorpanels pulse like the subs do. its just great to watch. but what u think about the 15? cuz i figured for the price of one 12 which is like 100 dolalrs verses two for 180 i rather go big and sound good. thanks for the input

i have had at most 3 type-r 10" subs hooked up to a 600 watt amp and i bridged my setup since i purchased the 4 ohm speakers. it was ridiculously loud, but mind you the 10's hit at a much higher level than the 12's or 15's would.
15" subs are AMAZING. that deep bass is a great sound, and with a decent set of component internal speakers running from like a 250-400 watt amp, you'd have every bass range you could possibly want.
only issue, is that they aren't nearly as reliable as smaller subs. they blow easy, and suck up quite a bit of power, especially with your huge amp.
having the 3 farad cap does help, but its still straining on your alternator pretty bad.
either save your money and buy one JL 12" w7 (which, again, would strain ur alternator pretty bad, but wud rattle ur eyeballs out of their sockets..........literally)
or get two type-r 12" subs
you will definitely be satisfied, and still not have to worry bout blowing ur **** up on cold/hot days
just dont buy em from bestbuy cuz they are way over priced there!!!

It all depends on what you listen to as well. I listen to metal and rock, so my single 10" sub is perfect. It can extend pretty low, and hold the low tones when needed, but it's small enough to be punchy and tight on the drumming in my music. For hip hop/rap, probably 12" or 15" to handle the ridiculous bass. Of course, you have to build your enclosure properly, but consider what you listen to most of the time and size the speakers accordingly.

yea i listen to ghetto rap to **** my neighbors off but i listen to just about everything. I think im going to two twelve route and hope i dont regret not gettin the 15. Cuz with the 15 fitment issues arise in the trunk. How much do u think a new alternator runs cuz i hear that a cap dosent really help to much but if you switch the alternator it will blow your mind.

All an upgraded alternator will do is allow you to keep a stronger charge in your battery, or to recharge it more easily under load. The cap (provided it's big enough) will store excess energy, to be released into the stereo system when needed, to help with really hard sub play. With a properly-sized cap, you're going to hear more difference in the sound (and probably see it too, since your lights won't be dimming out when the bass hits).
Incidentally, if you have HIDs, you're really probably going to want a big cap to help out - if the subs are hitting hard enough to dim the lights out, it's probably not good for the ballasts if their power flow is being drained out every time the subs hit.
