is the cig. lighter just an average 12V power source?
I ask because the Cig lighter in my work car (pos 98 cavalier) has decided to take a ****, even with new fuses, now would I be able to run say power lines for a sub box, to an external 12v source in the car?
I need my gps for work and it has no power source anymore.
thanks

It is but its also probably an easy fix. Many times they have something on the back of the plug just in case the socket is over loaded and the fuse isnt burning out in time. On my old civic I just re soldered the back and was good to go.

the power lines for subs are direct from battery,(yes i know there is like a 20A fuse inline) i would make sure the cig lighter is hooked up through fusebox. for your own safety, and so you dont burn out a nice gps unit
also, try to post this in the interior fourm....might be more appropriate
