I think bring them into the coffee shop w/ ya.........or get there a little early and see if they will hold them behind the counter for you, and then when you go to get the coffee at the counter, they can hand them to you there.....are you getting there before her? If so, then you can bring them in w/ you and not be embarrassed that you are bringing them infront of her....either way I say bring them in and give them to her at the beginning of the date......

flowers on the first date = "i'm desperite" in a girls mind, not "how sweet"

2nd date, half way through first date (only if date is going EXTREMELY well, and flowers are EXTREMELY convienient) says "how sweet", not first date though.
you'll do more harm than good if you really wanna make the most out of this
