I think I would've chosen a manual weapon to fight zombies. I'm always scared of running out of ammos.

No, the axe, bat, chainsaw etc should be the "when all else fails backup weapon". You need a powerful, high capacity, high rate of fire gun like my assault rifle to ensure the walkers don't get to close. A shotgun or pistol is good for use between reloads.
