I'm not a big fan of Toyota or Honda. I totally admit that. But I don't think what I'm about to say has anything about me being biased. I've been watching commercials of Toyota about their ugly looking and totally boring Camry. The commercial is about a daughter talking to her mom about how her (mother's) boyfriend is. In bed that is! So they have a laugh at it and decide to talk about it over launch. At the end of commercial they call that family a "modern family" and off course their ugly car also a "modern car".

Call me crazy, old school or whatever. But I don't think a modern family should be considered a family who is divorced, widowed, single parent or others. I mean these things are not necessary things that people would consider a normal thing. Sure there is a lot of them and it happens many times, but it's not a normal thing. I don't understand how Toyota thinks this is a cool or neat commercial. I understand how a daughter or son can have sexual questions about her parents, but common it's not modern to have a single parent, divorced or widow status. It just seems very untrue and BS to me.

i think its just a marketing thing. i would guess that there is a higher percentage of "broken" families & they probably want to make them think they are normal (modern), that its ok to divorce, and that its ok to buy a toyota, honda etc. (not that this is right, but you do what you have to to sell a product) commercials are no different than the movies.
