If he's new, he's most likely on some sort of probationary period (30 days, 90 days, whatever)... assuming you made it clear when you hired him. If he screws up during his probationary period, you have every right to fire him w/o reason.

We do 60 days here, and I know that he's just not going to work out. But, I never make decisions while angry so I'm going to sleep on it tonight.

Id **** can him.

Just like you advised me about the problematic employee I had during the summer. She is still working here and still a thorn in my azz. (owners wont let me can her)

If this person is trashing a van already then totaling it will be in his future. No respect for company property, which means things will be damaged and missing. This person must not care if they loose their job.

I woke my girlfriend up this morning to bitch to her (I hit my office at five AM) and she seems to agree with all of you.

I am a medical laser clinician (and bosses #2 man) for a regional laser rental company. Punctuality, professionalism, and teamwork are vital to our success as a business. There is really no room for error, and we don't need people who aren't willing to give it 100% every day.

it looks worse in real life, thanks to poor lighting and a 1.3mp cameraphone. I know it's not a brand new van (my new one will be here next week!) but still, I've driven that van for almost two years and it's my home away from home and my office on the go. The fact that he would just display such utter disregard for everything just infuriates me.

If he caused all of those problems/damage, I don't even know why you are even sleeping on it. Clearly he should loose his job or pay for the damages.

I'm thinkin he was thinkin the damage was so minor you wudn't even NOTICE...

Which suggest he's a doper...

have him tested, THEN fire him!

My vote is for firing. You can screw a few things up as the new guy but everything you describe shows that he isn't really fit for the job itself.
