Default Scam???

I put my wheels and tires up on CL a couple days ago and received this email today:

"Hello, I am interested and i thought i could just inquire if you still
have it for sale, let me know if it is still available and if the
condition is still the same as it was said in the add, The price is
good though but are you willing to come down alittle bit on your price
if you can come down on your price let me know how much if not i am
still very much interested cause your price is reasonable...
I will be waiting for your response....
Until then.
Sincerely,
Thomas J Beeve.
"

I replied with:

I am willing to negotiate on the price. I don't want to come down too much, but I could work with you a little bit on it. And yes, the condition is the same as it says in the add. They have been off of the car for quite a few months now and have just been sitting in my garage. Like I said in the add, please feel free to call my cell and we can talk about the price and maybe set up a time when you can look at them.

And then he sent me this earlier tonight:

"Thanks for your quick response. I am okay with the price, i know the price does not
includes the pick up arrangement..... but it has to be in good condition. if that's no
problem for you. I'll want you to get back to me with your name and address and
your phone number for the check to be made out. I can require the payment mailed out in two days from now and you should recieve it in the mail in 2 to 3 business days and it will be inform of a certified check. I should get it mailed out on Monday afternoon so you can recieve it in the mail during the week..Once check clears your bank we will discuss about picking it up my hauler will come down for the pickup once funds has fully cleared your
bank.
I will be waiting to read from you.
Thanks.
Thomas Beeve.
"

I'm thinking it sounds a little suspicious, and maybe it's more obvious than I realize...I don't know. This is the first time I've tried selling something on CL.

Thoughts?

scam.

big flags are the cert. check, and having a 'hauler' come get them.

Yeah, those are the two biggest things that struck me as odd.

Well, that and the fact that he doesn't ask any questions whatsoever about the items at hand.

Yeah that's definitely a load of crap. Biggest tip-off for me was that the message never actually refers specifically to your wheels - just "it", totally generic. This spaz probably sends the exact same pair of messages to every item for sale on Craigslist, phishing for contact info; names, addresses, phone numbers.

Not to mention, "Thomas J Beeve"? Come on, man - I could think up a better fake name than that in an instant!

LOL funny you should say that because I ran a White Pages search on his name in the area after I got that email. Turns out there actually is a Thomas J Beeve in Springfield, IL, and judging from the street view he's pretty well-off.
