"Rule of Thirds" Photography Help!
Good afternoon guys,
I am currently in an Intro to Digital Photography course, (CM-151) and for a project that is upcoming I need to take like 20 photos using the "Rule of Thirds" composition. While I checked out the Digital Photography thread, I could really use and would appreciate more specific advice..
I know and understand what the "ROT" is, it's just I need some real-life examples of what I can shoot for this. I am using my D3000 with the standard 18-55mm lens, i have an SB-600 external flash if it is necessary to use at some point. I have little to no time to go out and shoot, I am tied up with my other courses and I neglect my camera on the weekends (which I won't be doing from now on)
Again I really appreciate the input here guys as I am aware of the skilled photographers we have on the forum! Much love

My Canon G9 has a nice feaure that puts the vertical and horizontal lines on the lcd screen.
You can use the ROT on almost any composition....flex your imagination and get creative!

here are some examples that I have shot they all exhibit some of the rule of third, once you understand it, it is a very simple rule to follow
DSC_0092.jpg?t=1256132817
^the skier is the focus and if you divide the photo into a tic-tac-toe board you'll see she is very close to intersecting the bottom left corss
DSC_0066-1.jpg?t=1256132822
^^focus runs along the right third vertical line
DSC_0103.jpg?t=1256132845
^focus in on bottom right thirds intersection
DSC_0042_2.jpg?t=1256132857
^^^focus is on left intersection
hope that helps some

cab-- thanks for your input. The pictures are good and now I have a better idea for what I need to do with this project.
Anymore examples are encouraged. Paintballguy has some dirty photos

Dirty photos huh? HAHA
Anyways, yes rule of thirds.... These are one of those rules that once you understand you can break them. BUT you need to understand it... Here is a simple explanation:
Do not put your subject dead center of the frame. Put it anywhere else in the frame and it's pretty much following the ROT. Im running late for work but I will post of examples tonight when i get home.
