Ok here is a math one:

You have six *****. One of the six ***** is a different wieght. You have a balance scale to use. You can only use the scale twice to figure out which ball is of a different wieght. What are the moves you would use to find it?

 

Put 2 ***** on each side... if the balance right, then you know it is one of the other 2 ***** that you have spare. weight them... one will be heavier, the other.. If it doesn't balance frst off....
erm.. need more thinking time...

You are close. I use this question when I interview people for my team at work. It tells me if they have trouble shooting skills for networks or not. Not too many people get this on the first try

 

is taking ***** off considered using the scales?

 

You were going in the right direction on your first try. You can not take ***** off.
