The random crap thread!

RE: The random crap thread!
Find a local gun store and inquire as to where the nearest range is.
Go there and inquire about signing up for some classes.
Most ranges have weapons you can "rent" for classes and such. Maybe you can even sweet-talk the mullett-wearin guy behind teh counter to suggest a good weapon for you and (eventually) flatter him into letting you try it before you buy it.
If your state requires licenses for ARMED security officers (easy enough to find out), find out if you can take the classes for that as an individual or if you need to be "sponsored" by a company you're employed by to take the classes.
If you can do it individually, without being sponsored, go for it! You'll learn an additional trade in the process.
Armed Security doesn't entitle you to carry a weapon, btw, you'll still hafta comply with whatever your state requires for a CWP if you wanna carry, legally.
Taking the classes, if they're available in SC, will just allow you to kill two stones with the same bird.

Lauren,
SLED website: http://www.sled.state.sc.us/default.htm
In the left-hand window click on: Community Services
Then, at the top of the main window click on: Community Services Staff
Scroll down to where it says: REGULATORY
You might want to inquire, if you want to go that route, of the POC for Security Guards whether or not their training is equivalen to the training for the CWP and if it can be substituted for same, or if you'd hafta re-take the same classes for the CWP.Hope this helps...
