Since when did tipping goto 20%? I tip 15% or double the tax on the bill. And I live in NY

We had this SAME discussion at my other job the other day. It has been 20% for like the last five years!!!!! We don't have tax in Oregon...so I don't know what you mean by doubling it....but it has always been 20 for as long as I can remember...this is of course when you get good service...I mean, if they are bad...I wouldn't reward them!

lol.. as far as i knew it was 15-20%.. ive also heard double the tax, but that is also state depeded as you said that your state doesnt have tax..

My roomate does the following. He takes a sugar packet.. Which represents 20%. For everything he doesnt like that the waitor/waitress does, he puts a rip in it. For every rip thats a 1% deduction in tip.
