Default PS3 questions

okee....

just thought I'd get some clarification...
Im looking into a Ps3 in the next month or so & was curious about the Blue ray & HD stuff..

right now as of today, can I buy a Ps3 out of the box & have it upscale / upconvert
my Dvds & PS2 games to hi def quality? Ive read it can but only after a firmware patch..
I didnt know if current systems on shelves now - if they allready were capable out of the box.

also - will it upscale / upconvert if my TV is only 720p? I read somewhere that
if you dont have 1080i it'll "downshift" to like 480p. Boooo[&:]

I haven't heard about the upgraded quality. Have you searched some game websites for an answer?

i havent heard of the ps3 upgrading your current DVDs. it just probably just makes them look better and sharper. but isnt it strictly Blue rays?

Anyway, ide get it now because the price may not stay at $499. plus, there are going to be a lot of good games coming out in the near future that are only for the ps3. but as of now, most of the games are nothing special.

if you do get it, look into Lair. it may not look to good but it is. I should know because my neighbor made it. the president of Factor 5, he used to make games for lucas arts, so you know its gonna be good.

The PS3 can upconvert DVD movies, and does a pretty good job brining them to near HD quality. You don't really need the bigger hard drive unless you plan on just packing it with music and downloads, although the PS3 will never match the 360 and Xbox Live for downloads. Yeah, I go for a 360 any day over a PS3 even though HD-DVD is the losing format and I had to get the external drive. The PS3 is getting better with PS2 game compatibility, but it's not like people go and throw the PS2 away when they get a PS3.

Just buy a XBox 360 or a Wii. Wait a couple of years, see which one of HD DVD or BlueRay takes off, and just get a dedicated player for that.

Dedicated players are a waste of money, a combo player is best.
