Progress on the Type-R...

RE: Progress on the Type-R...
ORIGINAL: ZedEx
The car is 100% stock on the exterior... No tint, nothing on the outside or ricey on the inside at all. Stock Integra Type-R Exhaust, the car is silent as stock, and some Rota GT3 wheels, light 15" wheels wrapped in Yokohama ES100s. Why am I catching these ricer jokes when I'm the furthest thing from a ricer?

RE: Progress on the Type-R...
Just to get the car how I want FOR NOW... Mmmmm... How much did I spend, or how much would it cost SOMEONE ELSE to build it? I've spent about $3,000 thus far, and I've got about another $1,200 worth of crap to buy before she's how I want her for now. Someone else? About $12,000 how it is now.
Now, when it comes time for the 800whp+ build... Probably about $20,000 in the powertrain alone. Figure along the lines of:
-Bottom End: $5,000
-Top End: $4,500
-Turbocharger Kit: $4,200
-Transmission/Drivetrain: $4,500
However, when time comes, I'll be able to sell my existing powertrain for about $6,000-$7,000 depending on if I find the right buyer. However, this is precisely why I'm planning on the monster build in the next 5 years, so I can have PLENTY of time to get my wallet nice and fat, so I don't go broke.

RE: Progress on the Type-R...
I had a 2000 PY Type R. I had it well modded, Mugen treatment and so on. I ended up putting Crower 403 cams on it and a computer program to run 9,600 rpm. Well at the strip I heard a slight pop and then started coasting. I got the car home on a trailer and after using a huge wrench to get the #3 spark plug out I could see it was crushed and a flashlight revealed metal shaving inside the head. I knew I was in trouble. What happened was a valve retainer broke and sent the valve down punching a hole in my piston. So there I sat for 5 months as my cylinder sleeves were replaced, now thicker than ever, slight over bore also, higher compression pistons went in as well as titaninum retainers, the Mugen valve springs were undamaged, and then trouble, Acura could not find me a new Type R head anywhere including Japan, mine was damaged beyond repair with a valve stem logged in it. As a side note I used the head latter as a coffee table decoration. Finally I found a refurbished one from a guy who raced on Speedvision. The car ran stronger than ever when I was done and it was almost worth all the trouble! So I say to you, stay the coarse and good luck from someone who has been there!

Oh I've been in the Honda game for years, I've had my share of trials and tribulations... I've always wanted a Phoenix Yellow ITR, you're Damn lucky my man. And I'm awfully surprised that you couldn't find a PR3 Head anywhere, I've personally seen dozens for sale on Honda-Tech, and locally. All else fails, a B16A head would have worked just fine, with a slight port and polish, and an upgraded Valvetrain with CTR Camshafts, and you would have had a better top end than before.
Anyway, how much did you sell her for?

RE: Progress on the Type-R...
I sold it for 19,750 back in 2003. The person got a real deal, it had 14,750 miles on it. I never should have sold the car, I only talked about the motor, I had done suspension work, de-badged it, stainless steel brake lines, pads, extra set of rims with R compound tires for the track, carbon fiber hood, harnesses, harness guide bar with video camera mount for the track, upgraded injectors, fuel pump, FPR, adjustable cam gears, petals, the list goes on, but alas I was on to the next project. I think a lot of people on this board who bash Japanese cars really should have driven my Type R and then seen how they feel. On the track it was a star, staying between 6000 and 9000 rpm the whole time, being nice and light that I could brake incredibly late into the corners. It was a great car.

RE: Progress on the Type-R...
They sure are... Now take the power your car had, add about 30whp, and throw it on a lightweight EG Civic Chassis... And that's my car. Haha
You shouldn't have gotten rid of her man, those are going to be quite expensive in a few years. My goal is to purchase an Integra Type-R in the years to come, I'm not sure of the probability of that actually happening, but I'd sure like it to.
