PICTURES are up - box & head unit
ok...[sm=pimp.gif]
so Im finally growing up & getting my first "big boy" system lmao.
Ive been pricing subs & such for the past few weeks & wanted to get an opinion
from my AF fam. 1st.
im looking at upgrading to an Alpine head unit W/ ipod controls.
but - they want to sell me a Valor double din touchscreen dvd etc.
opinions? I really dont need the extra dvd fancy stuff - plus dont know the brand well.
also - in the interest of saving a bit -
Im thinking of 1 x 10in Alpine Type R sub but I know teh JL W3s are good but a bit more..
anyone have a preference?
edit: PIcs on next page

RE: question for Chaos & other stereo junkies
I like the type-R's and think they are a great deal for pay. Systems can be opinionated like exhausts so its a personal choice Vs budget. Even though I like Alpine I went with 1 10" Memphis and an Alpine amp. Works & sounds great to me. The head unit you will have to wait for someone else to chime in for because I have not done much research on them lately and the technology is always changing. The shop could be trying to get you to spend more $ so buy only on what you will use not what has more options.

cool beans on the alpine type Rs...
ive heard good things about them & I think they sound great.
I think I'll defenitely go w/ the Alpine head unit i dont need the extra stuff anyhow.
just gonna wait & see if anyone STRONGLY prefers the JL's
THanks Chris - pet that chocodog for me lol..

RE: question for Chaos & other stereo junkies
Actually the prices on them are very close, the Alpine takes a slightly smaller box.
Alpine - sealed box .5 - .8
ported .6 - 1.3
JL - sealed box .6 - .9
ported 1 - 1.5
The JL's tend to sound better in larger ported box's.

Yea just stick with the alpine deff. Valor is another one of those jensen wannabe companies. and for the subs. As long as they are a DECENT sub which a Type-R is... then you will get a good sound. Granted the box is made properly. I see box demensions up above... Are you going with the premade enclosure from Apline? or u gonna make or have a box made for you?
But anyways.
Sealed box is a must. give you good range for all music. and the Type-R's can bottom out kinda low so you can still isten to some rap/techno if you choose to at higher volumes.
And for amp tuning. are you going to do it. or are you taking it somewhere?.
When you get to that part send another message and we can tell you how to tune it very NOICE.
Just curuious what Alpine HU?
