I was thinking about throwing the $4k into my current TT, but I feel the need to start something new.

Orrr...I could always just invest the cash into buying a lift or two. I found one brand new for $2k...

I think the shop would be taken much more seriously with a lift. So maybe one lift, and then use the other $2k to add my paint booth in a section of the bay.

Without a doubt, I'd get a tired RX-7, put some $$ into it, and go autocrossing.

If you get one and make it a v8 i'll kick your *** and regret ever mentioning it hahaha. Buy a 89-91 though and if it runs fix it up a little first then save the dough and do a turbo conversion which means an entire drivetrain swap fyi. And really you dont need to make the interior all that great if you want to auto cross it then you could just get some nice seats, harness, roll cage, and some useable gauges like oil pressure, wideband if anything just so you can have it when you go turbo, and when you are turbo a boost gauge. If you arn't using it as a DD it will be one of the most fun track cars you could ever get IMO. If I wasn't using my old one as a DD on a 4 puck clutch there is no way I would have sold it. Actually buy the lift and a RX-7 at the same time will make everything easier hahaha.

good point. a $350 rx-7 and a $2000 lift ... still gives me a couple grand more to play with

I'll bet that car is a piece though. probably lots of time and sweat. but thats the fun part, right?

Look at it like this if your making it into a track car screw the interior. If your getting a paint booth who cares how the paint looks. The reason I said 89-91 is because its slightly more powerful and has different bumpers tail lights and mildly different interior but again track car doesn't matter and if your going to convert it then the power wont matter as you will want to go stand alone anyways for a track car. So GO FOR IT!!! 86-88 is S4 and 89-91 is S5 and in 92 they had a vert S5 but not available in a turbo and its a vert so I just left it out. You should enjoy the project and the fact that its rotary just makes it so much more fun too. Although the turbo engines arn't know for longevity and you MUST have a good tune on the stand alone or you can blow an apex seal from a couple bad knocks.
