new phone...

well it depends on your personality, I am surprised that my KRZR is still with me and kicking after two year of my abuse, so when I eventually get a new phone I will probably get one of these
I don't need/want all the internet stuff on a phone right now and since I'm an outdoor person and tend to abuse the things I own a shock resistant, dust resistant, water resistant phone would be a great addition to my arsenal and the 2nd gen is a lot slimmer than the 1st gen my good friend has.

yep took the plunge and got a Curve (8330) TOTALLY addicted. I agree with the BS about the Verizon "data plan", bastards. Oh BTW I have a 8830 (world edition) with a clean ESN, NIB if anyone is interested. Verizon and their infiintie wisdom sent me the wrong handset after multiple equipment issues and let me keep it for the hassle of having to pay for a piece of equip that I didn't want in the first place.

yeah my friends is a great party things because i'll just steal it and throw it in some random persons cup and see what happens, usually he'll pretend to flip out and then the phone will ring and everyone is like WTF Mate, works decently to introduce ourselves to girls.

Can you not just buy a BB off of craigslist or ebay and hook it up to Verizon without data?
I think the consensus here is to get a BB, if it is possible... even without data.
I've held the Dare and it's a cheaply constructed POS. Most 'regular' phones are, compared to the good smart phones.
The treo 680 was the smallest (650 was thicker and had an antenna. I think the 750 is the same?). The new Treo Pro looks kinda neat... but the effin' guys didn't give it WiFi. It's probably not 3g either. Fail.
I'm pretty much done with Palm, even if they do get back into the game... Blackberry will likely have my business for many years to come. My Bold is constructed extremely well, and is a pleasure to use. If they made it with a touchscreen, it'd just be that much better.

You should have seen the 1st gen versions - almost twice the size and felt like a brick! These are the 3rd gen ones and very light, we've tried their PPT option and it still sucks - nothing beats Nextel's PPT system yet.
If you're going BB - stay away from the Storm - it's a piece of sheet - I'm stuck with mine - went over the 2 weeks before I could return it

so my gens are off, my friend has the 2nd gen then.

Yea looks like most of you guys recommend blackberry... thing is verizon charges for a data plan on all of their smartphones and a blackberry plan for the RIM phones... Its not possible to get them with out, so I was looking for the next closest thing without actually being a smartphone/blackberry

Yeah, it's funny, the 2nd gen ones were actually a decent design. They had one flaw - a side button that if held for longer than two secs would disable the ringer and go silent. My knuckleheads would stuff them in their pockets and their keys would press against them - so we had to have them carry them in hosters.
That problem is fixed now. But these are almost too light - but seem durable enough. It's odd but this is the only Casio phone on the market too...
