Im not a enlisted, but I am thinking of doing a 3 year after school. I graduate from U of Maryland in the spring and was tesing the waters. Id prefer (and my almost new wife would too) to stay state side, but if im activated then so be it. But Id also liek to see how they would help with my masters.

how many years have you been in?
What state?
Any overseas service?
MOS?

Thanks for the repsonses guys.

been in almost 5 years.. 1 year in Iraq, 1 year working with the Air Force at a base not too far from my house.. making an extra 38 bucks per day for "Food".. now im making an extra 1200 a month for going to school... some schools offer tuition discounts for guard members.. Honestly the guard has been one of the best things i have done with my life.. It has gotten me a lot of training that has helped me out this far, and is going to keep helping me out along the road.

i am a 96U, BTW.. dont be some tanker or infantryman because that is going to help you out on the outside world

Yeah I was lookiinmg at going in for a 3 year deal. Im going to be graduating college and will be 23 when and if I join. I was looking at 25f (I believe thats the mos code I found). I did want to get RIP and airborne in my contract just in case they send me to the box. I would rather have the trainiing and not need it then need it and not have it. But I garauntee the signal corp mos 25f (if Im correct) will help my current civilian job as a network admin. The only issue is my soon to be wife is scared of me joining, and of course doesnt want me to leave for a year tour in iraq, but I feel the need to serve so I think she may come around.

I've been in the Ohio Air National Guard for 7 years now. I've deployed a total of 3 times to Kuwait, Afghanistan, Kygrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. I must say it has opened a lot of doors for me. It may have taken me 5 years to get through college, but it was well worth it. My MOS (in the air force it's an AFSC) is Communication/Navigations specialist for C-130 aircraft.

In my state we have 100% tuition, so my schooling was totally free plus an extra $350 a month for books or whatever. Keep in mind the Air Force treats it's people the best of all the services.

+1 (why don't we have a smiley for +1?) What Jared said. I'm not NG. 8 yeras Active army, 10 years reserve (with approx 5 years of that time on some active duty TTAD orders, or another, 75% of them voluntary). If there's ANYthing I'd be WILLING to admid my EX was right about it's this: I shudda joined teh Air Force. I'd probably still be married (so, maybe I shudn't've, huh?) to her if I hadda listened.

The Air Farce definitely DOES treat their people better, across teh board, from my experiences. If you have teh option I'd go Air Nat'l Guard, if I was you.

well air national gaurd and army national gaurd have the same tuition deals from the looks of it. At this point I only need help with my masters and the 50% deduction for a 3 year service will do. I figure by the time I finish basic, sit around for a while waiting for AIT (signal corp), then after that wait for airborne and RIP and any other training I choose Ill have a total of 1 year of good service, from there I will re-up if I like where Im at or I will opt to discharge. It all depends on how I feel and if I like my MOS and unit.

I've no doubt that the ANG/NG educational packages are similiar. ANG/NG educational packages are funded by state AND DoD, as best as I understand it. But, I was referring to all teh "non-educational" ways they treat their people...

If it was active you were talking about there would be no question go Air Force, but since its the guard, you have a higher rate of deployment with the Air Guard..
