Default My dog needs a name

Just picked up a female boxer puppy today! I was thinking about naming her Layla. Anybody got any more creative ideas?

Dogs respond better to names that have hard sounds in them. Lady vs. Layla, for instance. T's, V's, D's, G's (with a "guh" sound, not the "juh" sound) B's, and such. Although softer sounds are distinguishable, hard sounds work better. Two-syllable names also work better, so Layla works in that regard. And, although she is too young worry about training, just yet, keep in mind the same holds true for commands. Short, hard-sounded commands are easiest for them to parse and respond to.

Lady
Bally
Candy (two hard sounds!)
Ginger (also two hard sounds!)
Daisy
Dana
Brandy (another two hard sounds)
Supercallifragilisticespyollidocious (just kidding)

Thanks for the insight... I hadn't thought about the sound of her name. I was thinking Layla, because there's a profesional female boxer named Layla, I think it might be Muhamid Ali's daughter?

Laila (note: slightly different spelling) Ali IS Muhammad Ali's Daughter, and a very good boxer in her own right, from all I have read. She's HOT, too!

AND, married...

Layla (or, Laila) isn't a bad name, actually. And she WILL respond to whatever you continually call her. I was just pointing out that dogs respond better, and more quickly to hard sounds.

If YOU like Layla, I'd go with Layla. Or, you cud let the dog decide. Make a list of potential names, sit her down a couple of feet away from you, and call to her, from the names in your list. Whichever one she responds most quickly AND favorably to is what *I* would go with, if it were MY dog.

Hope that helps!

don't name her Layla... everyone names their pets that. Name her something original that you really like!

WTF? I've NEVER heard any animal called by Layla. I haven't even heard of many people called that.

We just got a female English Bulldog puppy and named her Tilly.

All of our pets have had names that end in -ly including our Boxer (he died a couple of years ago) a very sweet and stupid dog.
