Hey Chaos - don't get me wrong - personally I feel every male should serve at least 18 months active duty once they hit the age of 18 like they do in nearly all the European nations. It teaches you things like personal pride and resposibility, self assurance, confidence, preserverance and self discipline. These are qualities that most young adults are sorely lacking in America today.

You can't truly lose gaining that.
I totally agree...

Chaos I forgot you were a damn stoner lol Doesn't matter, the military is so strained they'll take anybody right now. I've seen guys fail 2 drug tests and they still keep them.

Since I hate reading long *** posts that repeat, I'm skipping half of the thread.

1- I do NOT wana go to iraq or anywhere out of town for that matter. Is that possible?
Nope. You can easily avoid Iraq with the right job. You'll go somewhere though. Not necessarily the sandbox, but no matter what you do, you'll go somewhere. Jobs that travel, pay.

2- I'm currently enrolled at FSU and have class MW 3:30-630 and TR 3:30-4:50. Will i still be able to get a job in the military?
Sure. Forget about active duty and look into the reserves and guard. In the reserves you get automatic GI bill. It's not as much as active duty GI Bill, but it's free college funds. In most states (read: MOST STATES), guard service also means you get free tuition from state colleges. I'm not enirely sure of the benefits and what gets paid for, so make sure you do some research. There are a shitload of college programs in the military.

3- Which brach should i join?
Same question I asked myself.
Navy? No F'ing way I'm sitting on a boat for 6 months.
Army? I like camping, but the getting shot at part kinda sucks.
Marines? No F'ing way.
chAir Force? Well, my uncle aunt, step dad, grandfather, and neighbors are in the AF. Can't be too bad.

4-What kind of money would i be making the first year?
Dirt. With an occasional side of mud.

As a chAir Force reservist (1 year and counting) and former active duty lackey (6 years), I highly recommend the Air Force. Just not active duty. Besides your standard 1 weekend a month and 2 weeks a year, you can pick and choose when you want to work. A few people I work with did college and the reserves. Summer time you knock out the 2 weeks a year tour doing the annual training along with anything else you can pick up. Then you get back to college and do the weekend warrior thing. Picking up an extra weekend here and there along with working when there are breaks in school.

IF you decide to join the military, do a shitload of research on the job you want. Once you get all the facts, get some more and ask someone who has the job you're looking at. Do not become a cop, military police, anything where you carry a weapong every day, transportation, vehicle maintenance, civil engineer, any type of engineer, logistics, supply, air terminal operations, or fuels. Those are pretty much the main jobs that play in the sandbox. Unfortunately, those are over 50% of jobs in the military. Find something you really want to do, then ask someone that does it if they enjoy it. Then ask another person with the job. Since I had family in the military, all I had to do was ask "what should I do?" They all said to do in-flight refueling. So I did. I had no clue what I was getting into, but I really enjoy it. After carrying sailors, soldiers, and marines to and from different loations, I'm happy I have a job I really enjoy.

(I rilly hate mentioning this, but...) The Coast Guard Reserves has nearly ALL of the education benefits as the ACTUAL military (or, so I'm told), and a near IMPOSSIBILITY of getting deployed to Iraq.

Chaos - reading from your posts, i would say that you're not 100% committed to the idea, therefore you should not join.

I spent 6 years in the military as a CH-47 Flight Engineer. Iserved in the first Gulf War and did 4 months in Honduras voluntarily. Ever since i was knee-high to a grasshopper i wanted to be in the military.....that was my mind-set, so it was a no-brainer for me joining right out of high school.

I personally LOVED the military, but i hated the pay, so i had a choice to make. I decided to leave, albeit against a heavy heart, and i wish i would have stayed in. Again.....it's a personal choice and not a choice that should be taken lightly. You have to be committed to the idea of people telling you what to do, when to do it, and how to do it. But the personal rewards are great.

I would have served19 years in August, and could have retired in less than a year. [sm=headbang.gif]

Stay in school - get a good education. The jobs will come, just be patient.
