RE: military guys
1- I do NOT wana go to iraq or anywhere out of town for that matter. Is that possible?
A: Depends mainly on your job, unit size and location. High demand jobs like mechanics (me), infantry, truck drivers, engineers/construction are always getting deployed, its almost a given for them to see atleast one tour of duty. In the military you WILL go out of town eventually.
2- I'm currently enrolled at FSU and have class MW 3:30-630 and TR 3:30-4:50. Will i still be able to get a job in the military?
A: As reservist yes, fulltime hell no. As reservist you'll only have to do your mandatory 1 weekend a month, 2 weeks drills. But keep in mind you'd still have to complete basic training which is nine weeks long, then advanced training in your specific job (MOS) which can be 5 weeks to 18 months depending on your job. Plus you can be deployed at any time, Uncle Sam doesn't care if you're in school.
3- Which branch should i join?
A: If you enjoy getting being on a ship with a bunch of guys for many months then the Navy is for you. If you like 12+ hour days, horrible living conditions, rations, being out in the woods/desert/swamp for weeks without showering, and getting deployed constantly then join the Army or the clinically insane Marine Corps. If you prefer the best living conditions, coed dorms and max 3 month deployment then the Chair Force is the way to go.
4-What kind of money would i be making the first year?
A: Umm...undocumented aliens doing day work will probably make more than you do. Higher the rank better the pay. You might get a bonus but you won't get it all upfront. Maybe half now and installments down the road. Deployments are where the money is at, the pay will almost be doubled.
That all said, I've been in the reserves over 4 years now, been through one deployment and had many great experiences. I don't regret it at all. I'm not gonna say you should or shouldn't do it, but consider long and hard before you commit. The military is not the only solution to being short on cash.

Sell furniture........That's what I do while going to school two days a week. Wednesdays, and Sundays. When I write just a simple order for 7grand(which isin't much for the average furniture shopper),I get 6% of the sale, so about 420bucks. Now, on a good sunday, I will sell about 15k of merchandise.........

chaos,
a shortage of jobs at your age and career stage is not the best reason to join the ranks. Unemployment in Tallahassee is less than 3.5%. There are jobs for college kids to do to earn money while in college. Doesn't need to be the dream job, just something to pay the bills and some extra curricular activity. Finish college and the opportunties with more $ will be available. No bull, consider Pizza delivery or waiting tables/bartending. Easy cash for tips and you eat one or two meals a day for free. many of us have done it and faired well. PM me if you want some ideas.

RE: military guys
lol... you will never meet a wealthy soldier - unless you count the wealth of experience you gain...
Chaos - the military is for those that want to serve their country. Unfortunately, with all the recruiting incentives some look at it as a viable career boosting manuever - then a war comes along and they scream foul.
If it's money you need, mate- there's plenty of stuff to do. The moving furniture business is always lucrative - reminds me of a company in Colorado (if memory serves me) called 3 College Students and a Truck. Hell even McDonalds pays.
But to go into the military and say I don't want to fight your war is like saying, hey, sign me up for for years of sex ed - but I don't want to get laid.
If you truly want to avoid a fight - join the Coast Guard. [8D]

RE: military guys
Personally I would say dont join if you are not willing to fight. The gov. dont put time and money to train recruit's how to fight and stay alive in combat just so they can have a free education. That's what grants and student aid is for.
Nothing personal against you Brian, but I was quit pissed to here all those kids and families complaining about having to fight because they joined when we were not at war, then all of the sudden they were sent out when **** hit the fan. Sorry but that's what you are signing up for, like it or not.
