I used to be a hardcore windows fan and never really liked macs... then I played with one for a bit that had the new Mac OSX on it and decided to get one. It is SICK! I have a 17inch Mac Book Pro with 3 gigs of memory, Intel Core 2 Duo 2.33Ghz proc. 256mb ATI video card, and I upgraded the HDD myself to a 200GIG 7200RPM drive. This things kicks butt!!! I also have windows installed on here and I can run both windows and OSX at the same time. I can just tab between the two. And even running it that way my mac runs it better then it did on my 4K desktop PC I had a while back (meaning 2 years ish). Trust me get a Mac laptop and you will not be disappointed. Mine never crashes, it multi-tasks like no other. I can be rendering a huge video sequence, editing RAW NEF pictures, chatting, listening to music, and have Firefox open all at the same time. Yeah it slows down a bit but not even close to what a PC did when i had one of those. Oh and you can even get Microsoft Office that is designed for a mac so all your word documents, powerpoint, excel, and whatever else you may have will all be usable still.

umm ok... I used to fix computers for a living for 2 years of my life... then I got sick of it and bought a mac... now I work for Apple... here are the MAJOR differences:

PC - best for gaming, have to worry bout BSOD, Viruses, Spyware, OS Crashes, SLOW OS, Windows being a memory hog, etc.

Macs - Best for ANY type of Media (photos, videos, music), No Viruses/spyware, VERY memory efficient OS, OS RARELY crashes (maybe 1 OS X crash for every 1000 Windows Crash), VERY fast with less resources (1GB ram will run faster then a vista machine with 2 or 3) 100% COMPATIBLE WITH WINDOWS (especially now that u have to option to install Windows as a second OS on the mac)

PC / Mac - Both good for school but statistics say that over 50% of he laptops on campus or Apple branded, aka Macbooks

well it's a peronal opinion really, so I'll give you mine.

I started life out on Macs in preschool and i continued to use them through Jr. high. During this time we also got an old iMac for our family computer. While I'd been using them I can't think of one time they froze on me and the only issue our old Imac had (and this only started after it was about 6 years old) was the the HD fried itself one time.

Then I got into HS and built a PC to last me the next 4 years. It took 6 years for something to break on our Old mac (which BTW is still running perfectly after a New HD and is now somewhere around 10-12 years old). Within 2 years I had to have the OS replaced because of a bug in the software which caused it to erase my HD (the first time). Then about a year later the new OS I had started to ocasionally not boot or randomly shut the computer off. Then my HD fried again. Finally after 4 years the OS, AC/DC adapter, and video card all fried at basically the same time rendering my PC absolutley dead. Then I went back to Mac

For College I got the Macbook Pro. I've been using it for a year now and have Leapeord installed on it with some other things. I am so happy to be back to Mac's. My computer has not frozen once on me, i had a slight OS error that was easily fixed after a reinstall and this one did not make me lose any of my things saved on my HD. The battery Life is awesome and i love the speed this thing has. Like Josh said, I'll have itunes, firefox, iMovie, iphoto, etc running and the computer will not be noticeably slower.

I love my Mac and am really happy to be back to the Apple brand.

So I'd go into the stores and try them all for a bit, but in the end it's up to you and what you precieve as a good brand.

And a sidenote: You can install different browsers than just IE. I used firefox on my old PC and I also use Firefox on my Mac.

I like pc's
The main thing I don't like about macs is their cult-like following. I swear apple could release another iphone that's just faster than the current one and people would line up around the block to buy it; oh wait...
and

But still if you are computer illiterate then a mac would be the better choice.

well sounds like you're not a comp guy trey so i'll have to go with mac even though i don't like them lol. they are easier to maintain and since you're not too techy, they won't give you much trouble
