i test drove an 2002 A4 1.8t QM today.. i understand why you guys like these cars so much. many of you know that i don't ACTUALLY have an Audi yet, so i wanted to see what all the hype was about. amazing. i drove a 325xi directly after the A4, no comparison, the Audi was a much better drive. just had to share my new found Audi excitment.

Umm... similar, yes... but the b6 has a much more impressive ride.
The b5 gets a sweet steering wheel though, waaaaaay nicer than the b6. B5 shifter **** is better too! So everything you touch (well, what you most often touch) is better. It gets me by... but my dads b6 haunts me accross the driveway.

the b6's frame is something like 35-45% stiffer than the b5's... so right off the bat, the b5 doesnt stand a chance. Rolling in a b6, it feels sooo surefooted, like it's ready for anything... very very nimble.
The b5 is a killer car, don't get me wrong (and I still love the b5 exterior over the b6). But, the b6 drives better.
As for what I was saying about the interior... it's mixed. The plastic pieces are nicer in the b6, IMO (though I don't like the b6 window buttons) -- but the signal switch and cruise control are nice in the b6. The steering wheel, and shift **** are nicer in the b5, and IMO the whole interior aesthetics is a bit nicer, in the b5.
If I had to choose between a b5, and a b6, if money were no object... ... I'd be torn. I'd likely go b6, because the ride is a huge bloody difference... and I'd likely find ways to make me appreciate the exterior (the s4 lip spoiler alone made me like my dads b6 10x more).
Oh! The b6 is also MUCH quieter (in terms of wind noise)... but since my dads has 17's and the sport pkg... with those stupid noisy dunlop SP9090's... his car has more tire noise than b5's with 16's -- but that can't really be held against them. Wind noise sucks in B5's, at freeway speeds.

the b5 is perfection, function following form in every way...
Its simple yet sophisticated! it pushes you because it wants to be pushed back!
everything else after the b5 except the b6 S4 is overengineered and has lost its beauty. (well maybe not the A4's except B7a4)
