Default Looking for suggestions on a 7-seater 4x4/AWD

.... and a diesel. In the 2007-08 year range. One last complication, all seats should be forward facing.

I'm looking at keeping the vehicle for at least three years and in that time plan to do a trip by road in Western Europe and Eastern Europe (hence the diesel to keep costs down). The seven seats (maybe six) are needed for a growing family. I can't see three children's seats all fitting in one row.

After lots of head scratching, and reading I could only come up with a few options.

1) Audi Q7
2) Bmw X5
3) mercedes R-Class
4) mercedes GL-Class (costly $$$)
5) Land Rover Discovery... actually, I don't think I could rely on this on an around Europe trip
6) ... any others???

I'm gonna go out on a limb and bet that at least 9/10th of those who respond vote Audi.

I'm not voting for the Audi but my vote goes to the Q7.

reviewing your list again, i don't think the X5 seats 7 right? and if so, you'd probably have to get a roof rack.

That R-class looks like a Chrysler. actually, not really a fan of MBZ...

i guess i'd go Q7. lotta money to spend and still be pinched on room.

good luck - love to see what you end up with.

The X5 does come with a 7-seater option fortunately, so I wouldn't need to put the kids on the roof up there. Whichever 7-seater there is on the market, I would still need a roof-rack for luggage.

The problem is really not being able to find a second row seat that can accomodate three kids seats. If I just needed five seats, I could have so many more options.

Naturally, I am asking this question on other forums too, not just an Audi forum.

Does anyone know if the 4.2 diesel Q7 was on sale in the US in 2007-08?

I believe the TDI Q7 just came in recently to the US. I could be wrong though.

Are you looking particularly for a diesel? The Mazda CX9 is a pretty nice looking car that seats 7.

I think the TDI in the US is the 3.0 and not the 4.2

They deliberately kept the 3.0 badge off the original TDI brought into the US.

Yes, it would have to be a diesel. Planning on some road trips around Europe.
