Lets Talk Radar/Laser Detectors & Jammers
Anyone out there in AF running radar/laser detectors or jammers.
Which brands/models are you using?
Anyone using it in a State/Province where it's banned?
Do the Radar detectors give you enough early warning to prevent tickets?
Are laser countermeasures effective and worth the price.?
Due to my lead foot I'm very seriously considering investing some serious coin in a countermeasures system. I want everyones opinions!

Escort 8500 X50 here, and omg it has saved my *** many times.
There has been times where it picked up the radar a full 2 minutes before I even went passed the cop. There’s vids of it doing it on Google video too, I would recommend to anyone.

Where do you mount in in your vehicle?
I'm curious because i live in Ontario where they are illegal to operate while driving. I want a very stealthy installation.

OH well then you want the Bell STi Driver, it has the same internals as the Escort 8500 X50, but has a magnesium shell and it is undetecable by the police Spectre I, II and III radar detector detectors. Its like a hundred bucks more but unless they physically see it on the window they will never know. I have a friend who is a cop and he said when they see one they usually hit it with the Spectre to confirm its actually a radar detector as they may have seen and mistaken a magellon GPS or something like that.
I usually mount it very low in the center of the windshield wich is fairly concealed, or just over the gauge cluster depending on which car im in since my other car has a flip out pioneer AVIC-N1 and I dont like the detector dangling over a 2000 dollar head unit. It still works good there though.

that's where i keep my, better say use to have one there. Here in Sacramento only %10 of cops use radars, and if cop see one in your window u got more chances to be pooled over.
I use my radar detector only if I go out of town.

No the general rule of thumb is you want it mounted as low as possible without the windshield wipers or anything blocking it. Cops like to aim for your license plate as it is a flat reflective surface and provides them the most accurate speed result. (flat helps regular bands, reflective helps laser) So for best results you want it as close to the LP as possible. It will still work up there, just not as good. I would say a STi driver or escort 8500 X50 would still provide you a better result mounted in a bad spot then a cheap POS cobra mounted in a good spot.
hit this link for a lot of info on radar, they test every one on the market and provide accurate detection results.
