Default Kubricks 2001: a space odyseey

Ok rember the part where Frank was turning off the computer. It began to Sing Daisy Daisy. Could that be considered an Ironic juxtapoisition of innocense of the child hood song. And the reality that the computer had just killed 4 people?

Actually....no.

It was actually a statement about learned behavior/environmental conditioning vs genetic predisposition. HAL was taught much like we are as children, with a progression of increasingly complex ideas and concepts that built on fundementally easier ideas and concepts that were learned first and form the foundation. As Frank removed memory bank after memory bank, HAL slowly lost layer upon layer of more complex intelligence and reverted back to that child like state.

Of course this leads us to see that the central message in this scene is that we are all 'born' primarily innocent, and we have to learn anti-social behaviors. HAL had to learn that killing was an option, HAL never would have come up with that solution on his own.

Clearly this was a statement calling in to questions those that hold to the theory that we are genetically pre-disposed to exhibit behaviors, and a clear break with the catholic church dogma or original sin.

.
No.... "Original sin" is the sin that we inherited from Adam and Eve, when they disobeyed God and ate from the "Tree of knowledge of good and evil". It's "Mankind's sin" from a Christian perspective.
