Default Instrument cluster compatibility

I have a 2000 A6 2,7T 6sp. manual with a common problem - dead pixels on the trip computer LCD.

My instrument cluster part # is 4B0 920 980 M. I was able to find a 2002 A6 3.0 cluster in a very good condition, but the part numbers don't match (4B0 920 980 M vs. 4B0920981NX)

Is there a way to tell what years/models/part# clusters can be interchanged?

Your help is very much appreciated!

Cheers,
Milo

Try PMing auditech79. I think he might know the answer to this.

Best of luck!
