I'd probaby go back to my roots, and get me a rev 3 MR2 Turbo, and shove the JDM engine in the back. OR I'd get either a 280Z or an S14/15

Would S4s cease to exist as well? 
Ok, assuming no A4 or S4... maybe a TT. Ok, let's say all Audis disappear. BMW 3 series, pre-owned M3, Mazdaspeed 6, or depending on how serious the midlife crisis is, a C5 Corvette.

We're talking only new, right?
1) I saw a new black BMW 525, manual trans, at the bmw dealer the other day...about $38k. Last time at the Audi dealer the A4 quattros were $36k+.
2) Or a 3 series
3) 2007/8 Dodge Challenger (going waaaay back to my roots!) - gotta see and drive one first.
4) If Audi still existed, just not the A4, then a 3.2 A3. But only if it came with quattro.
I really don't like Front Wheel Drive at all.
I haven't owned a Japanese car in a long, long time. I don't know much about any of the cars mentioned above but if all Audis ceased to exist, then I would look a little harder - just a little. But it would have to be AWD or RWD.

You could find a nice NSX for less than 30,000. For 30Gs there are only two options for me new: EVO or STI. Happy now?
I'd rather fix up a better old car. For the amount I paid for my A4, 10,500, I listed the cars that I would have also wanted that fit under that budget. I bet you'll find that if you take a poll, almost nobody here with a B5 or a B6 bought their car new.
