Default I know this is borderline criminal...

...but I have to ask. I apologize in advance for bringing up a beemer on an audi forum, but I'm looking at getting a '86 BMW 528e. I'd get it just for the sake of fixing it up and possibly turning it over. Does anyone have experience with this particular model or know anything about it?

We are Audi people man. Someone here might, but be sure to check in on the BMW forums too.

you're right. I'm definitely an audi person and have a little trouble swallowing my pride to join a BMW forum. I just wanted to see if anyone here had any experience.

I'm kind of the resident Bimmer guy, but I'm not too family with the E28 5 Series. Older BMWs do indeed have rust issues, so be sure to check for that--especially around the gas cap and the rocker panels. A friend of mine bought a 524td a few years back simply for the sake of cleaning up and selling for profit--I know he had to do a lot of suspension work and a few other things, but nothing too overwhelming.

Good luck with the purchase!

Also check for rust around the rear upper strut mounts. I had a 5-er, or two, back in my CHERRmuny days that I hadda scrap because teh cost of the fix wasn't worth the cost of the car.

Rusty was barely even a BMW after Mike got done with it. Honestly not all that disappointed.
