I just sold my A4 at Carmax.
Below is a description of their process for those of you considering it.
Background:
I had a A4 B5 1999 for two years. The ABS light was on in my A4 and i ran out of free checks/repairs to make it turn off. This meant i could not get state inspection so i bought a mazdaspeed6.
My A4 was then sitting in the parking lot for 4 weeks while i procrastinated about selling it.
My registration expired feb 2012 and so yesterday i took it to carmax.
The review took around 50 minutes all in all.
They checked the mileage took it for a short test drive, where most of their focus is on making sure the oddomter is working. The interior had a few holes from dropped cigarettes and overall i would class it as poor to fair, but they gave it a good.
The clutch was on the way out but they didn't even comment on this.
130000 miles.
No modifications.
Usual dents and dings from a '99 car plus one minor scrape on the drivers side denting the front corner panel.
They didn't check any service history and didn't care that the engine has been replaced at 90000 miles.
Offered me $1200, which you receive the full amount.
It was quick and easy, i know i could have got more selling private but i don't have the time or space.
