Or maybe the engineers who designed the car's safety features and his flame retardant suit were watching over him. Oh, and don't forget the emergency whatever guys who ran out there and pulled him out of the car.

Wait, they can make fire retardant clothes?! How come all professional racing series don't require them??

I don't get why they had him WALK into the damn van... shouldn't he have been kept immobile until they were absolutely sure he had no spinal injuries? Lucky to be alive, that's for sure.

Yeah, that seemed stupid. But the guy tried to get up on his own and fell over, I guess they assumed that if his spine was broken, he'd already be paralyzed by then.

They don't? I thought all those racing uniforms like what he was wearing were flame retardant. The cost of that stuff can't be very high compared to the cost of the car and entry fees and pit crew and all that.
