So how much have you spent for straight up maintence (not so much as chainging the oil kind of things, but expensive procedures that require someone with tecnical skill to work on your car)? What year/model Audi is it and how would you say you treat it on the road as far as aggression on the engine goes? And did you do it yourself, have a friend at an autobody shop do it, or just straight up deal with the stealership?

I've got a 2000 1.8T...
I've had to deal with:
-lots of wheel bearings @ around 60 bucks a bearing and 1 hour labour (I can't do them myself)
-brakes all around -- fairly inexpensive and was an easy DIY
-timing belt -- there's plenty of info on this site regarding that job... it was a DIY job for me
-o2 sensor, DIY labour and 100~ for the part
-currently the secondary air pump and combination valve need replacing... it's fairly expensive @ 300 for parts + labour (a few hours for the combi valve)
I guess after writing this stuff down, it doesn't seem so bad afterall... not bad at all really, considering I bought the car with around 48k miles on it and currently it has about 85k miles.
EDIT: as for my driving style... I do wind it out every now and then (likely once or twice a day), and throw it through some corners... but for the most part, it's just transporting me from home to school or work.

Some people don't like getting there hands dirty but I've been working fixing bikes and cars from probaly 8yrs old.Its a hobby and I enjoy turning wrenches.I've saved thousands of dollars over the years the last time I paid someone is when I replaced the head on my A4 + timing + tensioner + water pump etc... from a buddy I know for $400 bucks. The only time I pay someone is when I don't have the tools or the time to be without the car.I've probaly still spent a few grand on labor for clutches, axles, paint, electrical poblems and other various problems.I've probaly save $10,000 + on labor for the work I performed on cars over the years. Its definitly not worth it if you don't like working on cars and you make good money to pay somone else.My 2000 A4 definitly seems to need constent attention and is definitly not a cheap car to maintain, but it is probaly my favorite car I've owned.

yaaaaaaay ! not counting fluid changes / brakes / plugs etc ...
& not counting mods...
- waterpump / timing belt...
- replaced leaking auxillary water pump.
- replaced cracked coolant reservoir
- malfunctioning engine coolant temp sensor
- performed Decarb treatment (this was a joke & waste of $$ [:@] )
- Ignition control Module
- control arms
- engine mounts
- CV boot
*** still to be determined if I need a new ECU... [:@][&:][:'(]
I dont drive the car aggressively every day [:-]-
2000 S4 roughly 92K on the clock...
I've had the car for a little over a year & a half...
as for the work - I've gone from indies, to stealerships, to DIY for the easy stuff...

98.5 30V 123k, "spirited" driving.
Tbelt kit $250, didn't have the time so had my audi tech friend do it for only $250.
F/R pads and rotors about $300, DIY
Alternator $75 used, DIY
Temp sensor $25, DIY
Next up is a ABS module (when I find an M)
Thats it so far. I know I saved a **** load at the stealership.
