Default Help buying a laptop [UPDATE]

Ok, so right now i have a Gateway M305CRV. Its a great laptop, but it runs hot and has a VERY LOUD FAN! I used to bring it to class until kids started looking at me. whenever I would open a file or somthing the fan would turn on. Im looking for somthing that is light, 12-14.1" screen, quiet, prefer an M processor. Im basically asking if anyone here has a Lenovo (IBM) or Acer. I love T series Lenovos. I read they run cool, and are quiet and fast. Newegg has some for just over a grand. Very attractive cpu. Any ideas/opnions?

so i just ordered a Lenovo/IBM Thinkpad T-43. Very intense notebook at a very nice price. $1,100.

im ready for the corporate meetings now! (if only i had a job)

yea that must be a gateway thing, my gateway desktop i used to use sounds like it's about to take off with that fan noise. I have a Vaio now, very quiet, and seems to be great so far.

to me the most incredible thing about macs is that you can run windows on them

i just dont wanna have to relearn an OS. too much time and effort. plus im on a budget, macs are too much money right now.

[EDIT] i just checked apples site, and they have a 13" MacBook for the same price as I was looking at, 1,100$...hmmmm interesting. just depends on what my old man says. ill keep it in mind tho..

Seriously dude, OS is way, way easier than people make it out to be. And since they can have windows, it's a lot better than a PC. That's my personal opinion though. I just think you should go check one out, you won't regret it.

personally i can use Macs pretty well and i like them, but right now i have everything figured out on windows machines and alot of them are starting to get towards what apples can do. But i must admit they are way better laptops, teh battery, picture, speed is all better on them, and now they are Intel, my next laptop may be a Mac.

PJtocci- i have a Asus, its a custom laptop u choose everything for it, not like dell where u choose some. But they only give u a list of stuff that will work with what ur building. U can make them cheap, and decent or pricey as hell and fast. U can also add thermal cooling compound to ur comp, which keeps the processor ALOT cooler. Which is the main reason for the fan, but when it comes on its not very loud. It has 2 small ones. I have a 15.7 wide screen that i threat like a desktop and its always on.

Not only that but MaximumPC ran a few tests and Macs run Windows XP 20-50% FASTER than the MAC OS!

Cant go wrong with IBM. I've heard a lot of good stuff about Acers laptops, I have an Acer monitor, and I'm very pleased with the quality. HP and Toshiba are also good solid choices in that price range.

I hope that was a jk. (lol) The new Macs run BSD under the hood. So unless you know Unix/linux macs are uselsss. Well it has its little GUI interface but if you really wanna use it you should know unix.

Gratz on the new laptop man. I hope you like it. And to DJSpeil...you do not need to know how to use linux/unix to use a Mac. Do you research...or buy one like I did.

I love my new Dell, but it doesn't sound like you are going that way. I owuld tell anyone to get one of these as long as they weren't traveling a lot with it. It is pretty big.
