can some one give me analysis for the poem by henry david thoreau thnx
Prayer
Great God, I ask for no meaner pelf
Than that I may not disappoint myself,
That in my action I may soar as high
As I can now discern with this clear eye.
And next in value, which thy kindness lends,
That I may greatly disappoint my friends,
Howe'er they think or hope that it may be,
They may not dream how thou'st distinguished me.
That my weak hand may equal my firm faith
And my life practice what my tongue saith
That my low conduct may not show
Nor my relenting lines
That I thy purpose did not know
Or overrated thy designs.

over all it means i want to be/do good
religion is the way maybe
the first verse is more like
he doesnt want to look bad, or to dissapoint like it states
he wants to do something great on his own becasue he doesnt want to watched over anymore
is the second part i think is about peer pressure casue why would u want to disapoint your friends unless they are a bad influence to you
third
he want to to become stronger with his religion and faith
and the person thinks religion will help him and steer him away from trouble and his true intentions (off subject becasue its human nature to kill each other and maybe that was referring to [That I thy purpose did not know)
this is what i think it is and i could be wrong but this is my opinion

You could probably google an analysis, but if you want mineā¦..
It sounds like he is saying that he does not depend on another soul to judge him, no one can judge him as harshly as he judges himself. No one can tell him who he is or how he should be, that whatever mistakes he will make along the way will be his own to learn from. Maybe finding his purpose in life along the way.
This is fun, we should do it again.
