I'm assuming since you have a nice 1080p display you want a high quality DVD player and you're willing to spend a bit more?
If so check out this one:

Its around $200 and heres some benchmarks against high end (over $1000) DVD players and how it stacks up. It uses some of the same chips as the expensive ones.

As you can see it stacks up pretty well (well, that may be an understatement.) I must mention though that I have never even seen one of these in person but everything I hear about them is pretty good. When I get the cash I'm going to get one mainly because it can do everything and play anything I need.

RE: HDMI DVD players
its not progressive and the sony DVD i posted does the same stuff.
I dont wanna go blueray yet b/c not many dvds are in that or HD DVD, i gonna wait a lil until the dvds are all like that and see if blueray or HD DVD is gonna be larger. I think a few DVd players already support them and i may buy one if its in best buy and does both.

RE: HDMI DVD players
It does in fact support progressive scan on the DVI output. In case you don't know DVI and HDMI are interchangeable. I believe it even comes with a DVI-HDMI cable. There is no difference in the video signal on either format. And I doubt any Sony players anywhere near the price of that Oppo can do what it does. If you look at those test results you will see some Sony players (the DVP-NS975V priced around $300) which fail quite a few of the tests. The Oppo will also play Divx and Xvid. I have never really been impressed with a Sony DVD player. They always seem to be lacking features I'd expect on a modern DVD player.
The choice is really up to you. I'm not saying you should go out and buy that player. But at least be informed about your purchase. On screens over 40" you want better picture quality then you receive on most budget equipment. Minor defects will be much more prevalent. I'd suggest finding a decent audio/video message board and let them know how much you want to spend and what features you require. I'm sure someone with much more knowledge in this area would be able to help you.
