RE: grrr.... overdrafting blows
Wells Fargo ftw. Overdraft protection+you can check your balance online at any time.
That said, debit cards pwn your balance. A t-shirt here, breakfast there, gas here, and all of a sudden 545 turns into 125. You can save so much money by withdrawing a set amount of cash every week and not spending more than that.

solid advice yukio. I totally agree, ive found that i do that sort of thing way too much. Im in the process of setting up a excel spreadsheet to track my spending for a couple weeks. youd be surprised to see how fricously you spend your money and how much a month you can save by cutting a lot of that out.

RE: grrr.... overdrafting blows
Good advise Yukio. I'm definately going to be more carful, and not use my debit card so much. I've gotten everything all squared away as far as my funds are concerned, and I will have $748 by the end of the month and be completely back on my feet and debt free by the second week of july (I'm borrowing $150 from a close friend, interest free and paying him back when I get paid).
I'm a little pissed about the fact that Bank of America has such a sh*tty overdraft protection program. I decided to stick with it simply because I can start building credit. Basically, you get a credit card with an 18% *** penetration rape (APR) and every time you overdraft, it transfers increments of $100 from your credit card to your checking account. After I signed up for it, I stopped by my old job just across the parking lot and talked to my old friends there, and one said she had a $200 bill on her card, and basically couldn't pay it and got raped by the APR and owes $1200 now. I know its partly personal problems why you wouldn't be able to pay $200 off and it turns into $1200...
But basically if you overdraft $.01, you transfer $100 to your checking to avoid the fees. Sounds good in theory, but hopefully I won't have to test it.

don't have a debit card or atm card. pay everything on credit card & write one check. you can see where your spending, but you MUST pay entire card balance each month or you'll be doomed in interest fees. plus you get frequent flyer miles.

yeah i used to be with us bank and got hit for $800 in overdraft, and i only overdrafted by $120, all those fees will kill you! I switched to wells fargo and they got it set up so you cant over draft. The od pertection and the online banking are key!

RE: grrr.... overdrafting blows
I decided from now on I'm going to make a monthly spending budget, get the cash, and use it in allowances per week. Then I know what I have and what I don't have just by counting the cash I have.

also with Wellsfargo you can check to see what you spend on what per month.. it breaks it down (your debit car purchases) you can see how much money you spent on food, groceries, entertainment, gas..etc. its great, and it does it for the last two months including the one your in (3 total) so you can see if you spent more this month than last month.. and see what your spending habits are like. one of the best features hands down!! Wells Fargo is #1
