Default Good Place in Tempe, AZ...

So my wife and I want to move away from the hell-hole of a "city" we live in now and we were looking around for places and think we found where we want to move, Tempe, AZ. She wants to move there because she loves to shop and I want to move there because I love warm/ hot weather. Anyway, what area of Tempe(like southside, north, east, or westside?) would be the best place to look for apartments or town houses? flyinb501, I assume or hope you'll chime in because you live in Tempe.

TIA for the advice

EDIT: We wouldn't be moving for about 2-years, after I get my degree in business

I live in south Tempe. That's where all the newer homes, and nicest neighborhoods are. I like it down here, but its the farthest part of Tempe away from ASU, which is on the north side. Still it only takes about 10-15 min. to get to ASU. If I were looking for an apartment, I would probably get one near ASU, just because thats where all the action is (nightlife and what not). Also, that part of town is right next to scottsdale, where the shopping and nightlife is pretty awesome. If your looking to buy a condo or townhome, that part of town is going to be the most expensive just because of its proximity to ASU, and all the bars and stuff. I guess it all depends what your willing to spend, how old you are, and what type of area your looking for. Tempe pretty much has it all.

Right now I am 22 and my wife is 21. By the time we move down there and I get out of school we will be roughly 24 and 23. I really dont mind spending money on a home, townhome, condo, or apt if the neighborhood is nice and the location is good. I just dont know much about the place so I am just kind of lookin ahead of time to scope out the places I would be interested in when I do move.

I would suggest comin out and checkin it out. I wouldn't rule out other towns in the valley like scottsdale, Chandler, and Ahwatukee. Those are my favorites. All are great cities, and close to everything. Tempe is deff one of the best though IMO. I'm sure you'll be able to find something you like. Let me know if you have anymore questions.
