Default Good HTML book

I am looking to start designing web sites in my spare time and I need to find a good HTML book to read. I am computer savvy but I just don't know much about HTML code and things of that nature. I also want to become better at Photoshop or GIMP so if anyone know of any tutorials on how to effectively use those programs that would be awesome too. Thanks

honestly the best way to learn HTML is by playing with it.. take a webapage that you like.. and find a feature about it.. IE a button that you click, now view the source for the website, and try to remove all the code except for that button.. now you have the code for that button, and you can look at the code for just that button and decipher how it works.

as for Photoshop, go to a bookstore like Barnes & Noble, and check out there lineup of photoshop tutorials.. the good thing is you can read the books while you are there, so you dont end up with one that sucks, get a book that you like, and that is written and done up in a format that is easy for you to understand.

Yeah, thats a good idea. I am not completely oblivious to HTML code. I know what it looks like and a little on how to decyphr. But just playing around with the code definately makes a lot of sense.

Thakns for the advice on the Photoshop books. What is your favorite program to use for choping photos and creatings sig's and what not?
