RE: fitting radio how 2
wow... great freking job man!
this should def be a sticky on the diy section....
can't wait until I buy my speakers and wires so I can do this... and while im at it I might as well do what you did with the wires for future subwoofers/amps... I think I might as well do the antenna thing as well .... the one that supposely gives you more range to unlock your car and what not... great work man...
I can't wait to see the ones for the rear.... thanx a bunch

Cool, man - good luck! I haven't got around to taking pictures of my rear speaker installation, but if you go look at the tech articles on AudiWorld, you'll find the DIY I used to figure out how to access them. It's not that tough. Let us know how it goes!

Just Finished Puttin them in.... Im tired lol.... Got the Speakers in the Mail around 1:45pm and finished around 4:30pm....
The hardest part about this project was putting back the drives side dash and trying to take the sides of the rear seats off... all the instruction i read said to pull it from the bottom hook first.... thats pretty impossible unless ur hulk hogan! but i found it easier by starting at the top.....
Now i need to get some money to get an amp and subs!!
Thanks for all your help!

Rock on man! That's weird about the rear seat side bolsters - on mine, the hook at the top is designed to flex up and down a bit, and the one at the bottom is just a metal hoop that catches onto an inflexible hook on the chassis, so you release it by bending the top hook down far enough that the bottom hoop can be released. Maybe they changed it between '97 and '99!
Gladto hear you got it done! How does it sounds? Kenwood makes nice stuff.

Dave, sorry to be a late entry to this post, but I was reading and you and MrFlippant seem pretty knowledgeable about this radio stuff. I have a 1996 A4 with the stock Delco/Bose tape deck in it. I see that it has the ability to do a cd changer too. Is there any way I can splice a simple head phone wire into the audio inputs on the changer so I could hook my iPod up to the factor deck? I figured i might have to put power to a certain pin also to make it think the changer was on. Any thoughts? Trying to avoid going the whole new deck route, but I'd like to have my iPod too.
Thanks in advance!
