Drove the 3.2 Quattro A3 today...
I was at the dealership for my 5000 mile service on the B7, and decided to wait around for it. The sales manager passed me the keys to a new 2006 A3 3.2 Quattro DSG that just arrived in and told me to take it out for a while.
To be fair, the 3.2 was pretty damn quick for an Audi. It certainly had some pep in it and it was noticeably quicker than the 2.0T A3 I remembered driving (which in itself is pretty quick). The DSG box was excellent and shifted smoothly and seamlessly always seeming to keep you in the sweet spot. Pedal response was pretty immediate on the downshifts. The biggest difference though was Quattro. It just gave it that secure planted feeling that you don't get with the fwd. It also seemed alot more responsive and direct through corners.
Only negative was that this A3 stickered at 38K and some change I believe! I don't see Audi selling many considering the base A3 is selling like crap at the moment.
I also took out a new 06 S4 6-spd, and it made me wish I had ordered mine with it instead of the auto. (I was thinking commuting as an everyday driver at the time[]). The box was slick, solid, with very short throws and a nice tight feel to it. I prefer it over the 6-spd in my old 330 Coupe.
Some R9 details. Out next year. RS4 V8 with 414hp standard. 0-60 at 4.5 seconds with the 1/4 coming in at around 13.2. Base price is 59K. Looks amazing.
Just thought I would share my thoughts.
EDIT: I believe he meant 59K British Pounds for the base R9, putting it at around 80K + USD.
