ORIGINAL: diyer999

What all you morons and imbeciles of the Board clique, failed to understand, because you did not do a search under DBW, is that "all" the mfrs want to get rid of the steering wheel, brake pedal, throttle pedal, and have us all use a joystick -- hmmm, although I think some of your rectums might get a bit more exercise than your hands ... oh, excuse me, back to the topic, uh well, my only point was to keep Audi as it presently is. I don't have a big problem with DB anything if it had a failsafe, but not to the point an entirely electronic system, and getting rid of the driving experience. Ya'll have a nice day!! diyer
OK. HERE WE GO. Its obvious you need someone to pay attention to what you are saying, and respond like a serious adult. So here is my honest, real opinion on the matter, since it is such a big deal you you.

IF drive by wire stuff ever comes about, I'm pretty sure it will be boring to drive. I like to feel the feedback when i drive.

YES, it seems like a dangerous idea with no mechanical backup.

I HIGHLY DOUBT that any manufacturer could feasibly get rid of the steering wheel and expect it to sell. Joysticks are a nice design study idea on concept cars, but to actually sell a car with a stick and no wheel and expect people who have had a wheel in the car for better than 100 years to pay for it is a tall order in todays world and also in the forseeable future. Just cause it showed up on the concept car this year doesnt mean they are standard equipment next year. I think it would be much more likely to see a wheel by wire system first, with a standard wheel and no mechanical linkage. or a dual system (wheel & stick.)that way it "feels" the same to Average joe car buyer.

CHANGE HAPPENS. Suck it up. If all you want is audi's to stay the same as they are right now, you become stagnant. New ideas happen whether you like them or not. What year is your audi? what is your favorite thing about it? what makes your audi so "cool" the way it is? ALL of those things were new technology once. How do you like them apples? If no-one ever embraced any new technological ideas this is what you would look like.

WHEN IT COMES RIGHT DOWN TO IT, you are bitching about something you've never seen felt, tried or experienced in any way what so ever. You complain about losing driving experience? How do you know that driving one of these systems isn't the greatest driving experience on earth? who's to say we won't try it once and say " screw all that old sh*t, the joystick is the way to go!!!"
YOU DON'T. You are founding your big argument /hissyfit on what youimagine the product will be like, not on any realworld experience. Are there any of these systems in used production today? How do you know that when/if they everare that they wont have mechanical backups? YOU DONT.and therefore your big problem with the idea is currently invalid.

You are arguingagainst things that have yet to pass, which is silly and childish. Its obvious that most of your anger comes from the fact that noone agreed with you right out of the box, and thats why you started with the name calling and such. Unfortunately, the ranting and all is obviously having the opposite effect that you were intending, and has led to even more arguments with others on this site, probably casting yourself into a negative light forever.

Or you could just be really really stupid.

Now you have a nice day.
