i never beat on any of the cars that come in nor does any of the other valets, only time ive ever taken a car down the road is when the owner says its okay to do so (which happened quite a few times).

I don't know about the GIAC software, but I was reading on APR's website about their valet mode. Basically you set it by performing a coded series of adjustments on the cruise control stalk, from what I remember - reminded me of doing a cheat code in a video game.

i finally got the call from the audi stealership...the guy had the nerve to tell me that i should think about getting a new car for the amount of work that needs to be done.

at a minimum, i need a new clutch/flywheel/pressure plate which they quoted me about $2800 for parts and labor. worst case senario is that the tranny is screwed and it will be another $4000 just for that. they also discovered a list of other problems like a vacuum leak, coolant leak, torn cv boot and some other minor stuff. so i told them thanks but i'm having the car towed from their lot to a local auto shop that works on audi's - who quoted me a price around $1500 to get the clutch/flywheel/pressure plate installed. so it will be at least a week before i can get my car back.

the extra little kicker is that the head valet guy yesterday (who wasn't working the day it happened) wouldn't tell me who drove my car, so hopefully the guys who were working tues will be in today. i'm planning on talking with the owner of the valet company about hiring people who don't know how to drive (manual) cars, which you would think would be a pre-requisite to work as a valet...i dunno, call me crazy.

Rule number 1 of audi ownership - Don't buy a 2.8 or 3.0.

Rule number 2 NEVER TAKE YOUR CAR TO AN AUDI DEALERSHIP! Mechanic shops are awesome. Let me know where you're located and I'll do some sniffing to see if I can find you a decent shop.

If you live in NY I recommend JC AUTO.

Man that sucks! I hope this all gets worked out and they don't stiff you. I bet they will try to say that most of the damage happened over time and it is not from them driving your car. They might even say you already knew about the damage and are just trying to have someone else pay for normal wear on a car. They owe you something.

A side note: friend of mine had his Lambo sent to FLfor the winter and when the guy was loading up the car he used up 25% of the clutch! He toldme that once the car was on the trailer the entire trailer smelled like rotten eggs. He called the ownerthey offered to put in a new tranny but the car was new and my friend did not want a new tranny, so they worked out some otherform of payment.

Hopefully the final update of this thread...

I finally got my car back after having it towed from the dealership in boston to a smaller auto shop near my home town. I had my car worked on at Bennett Auto Repair in Hyannis, Ma who specialise in Audi/VW and the guys were great. They saved the parts they replaced and it turns out that the valets snapped my pressure plate in half, which in turn gouged up my flywheel, so I had both replaced. At the same time I also had a coolant leak taken care of and my cv boots replaced. For the total amount of parts/labor that was done, it was about 1/3 of the price the dealership wanted to charge me. Its a small shop (maybe 6 cars can fit inside), but the guys at Bennett are really knowledgable and will take the time to tell you exactly whats going on. My car feels great and the shifting is much tighter than it was before.

Now the next step is to get the valet's insurance to cover some of the cost...

Oh and the extra little kicker...so about a month ago when the valet's lost my keys somewhere infront of the restaurant, I figured that they just lost the key in someone else's car. Well it turns out that they were infront of the restaurant the entire time. I came into work yesterday and my boss handed over my key fob that is now all rusted and doesn't flip open. Apparently someone just found them sitting in the street, even though the entire valet crew searched the street and nearby area the night they lost them in the first place...oh well. At least now I know that someone doesn't have a key to my car.

That's why I don't tip you douchebags.
Posts that i've seen everywhere by valets that are proud of how they beat on cars **** me off.

The first time I parked my car here in nyc I gave the guy $8 and came back to find the 5 $1 coins I had in my car gone. Of course no one was held accountable for it.

From then on I've been counting my change and i'll report it if there is a penny missing.
