Default Crazy day here - 12 dead in shooting rampage

For those who may not have seen it (it has been covered on national news all day), there was a hostage situation and mass shooting today that left a dozen dead and several more in the hospitals around here (at least one critically). Never thought I'd see this kind of stuff in this relatively small city. Sad day for real.

I realize that, it's just not the kind of thing that you typically see in a smaller area. I know it only takes one crazy person, but in a large city, there's a greater chance of seeing that one nutjob. In any event, it was obviously unexpected. Latest reports coming out are that he was recently laid off from IBM and this is how he decided to cope with it.

we had a tech not to far from front street today. They cancelled most of his work today. can't say that I blame them.

Yikes, I just read like 70 pages of the comments on that page. Goes from wackos talking about gun laws to wackos talking about political figures to wackos talking about Jesus. Oh, and some immigration banter in there, as well.

Terrible that this has happened. With so many dead, there will be a tremendous number of people affected by this.

Heheh, no I get you bro, it's just one of those reactions I guess - "wow I never thought it'd happen here" is all. I completely understand where you're coming from and your point is completely valid. Just surprising. It's like the impression that something awful only happens to "the other guy." Basically I'm just shocked that it happened.

Still haven't seen a list of the names yet, but so far no one has called me saying "can you believe __________ died in the shootings Friday?" Crossing my fingers that no one on the list is someone I know.
